Christmas Week in the Smokies

This is it, people – the big week for Christmas in the Smokies. This is what we’ve been training for!

We’re going to be seeing a lot of people come into East Tennessee to find worthwhile holiday entertainment for the fam. Much is advertised for Dollywood and The Island and such, but there are other excellent ideas that get a bit buried underneath their acclaim. Here are some of our favorite under-advertised holiday activities going on right now in the Smokies.

1. Ober Gatlinburg Winter Sports Season.
Between November and March when the Smoky Mountains are at their coldest, Ober Gatlinburg switches the outside of their mountaintop park for Winter Sports opportunities no one for miles around can offer. Skiing, Snowboarding, snow tubing and ice skating can all be found this season on the Ober Gatlinburg website.

2. Shadrack’s Christmas.
Located right where Sevierville turns into Kodak on Highway 66, Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland turns the Smokies Baseball Stadium into that which truly lives up to the name “Christmas Wonderland”. Shadrack’s includes Santa’s Village, inflatable entertainment for kids, and some of the most brilliant lighting displays ever made.

3. Christmas in Wears Valley.
Just up the road from us, Wears Valley is still offering throughout the area holiday-themed hayrides, carolers, tree tour, decorations and much more to fit the Christmas season. Wears Valley is our Arts and Crafts Community here in Pigeon Forge and they carry an awesome, understated Appalachian atmosphere and it’s well worth considering for a day trip with the fam.

4. Jeep Rentals For Lights and Sights.
Ok, this one is some self-promotion on our part, but still – the prospect of seeing the Christmas lights in town at night and the frosty-tipped mountains in the day time from a luxury jeep rental is pretty hard to pass up. Yes, the temperatures down here are still a bit warm as of writing, but the tips of the mountains far out can be a different story and they’ve already seen snow just a few days ago. With our jeep rentals, you can explore the towns, backroads, National Park roadways and much more.

Any of these suggestions would be excellent items to add to your itinerary. Please have a Merry Christmas from all of us at Summit Cabin Rentals. We hope to see you all soon!
